SEE IT RIGHT. A new documentary from NTS Radio, Rockers International and Island Records. A personal snapshot of Jamaica’s rich musical heritage and contemporary music scene. First episode released on Thursday 22nd August via Instagram TV on @nts_radio, with the full six episodes published daily over the following week, in conjunction with London’s Notting Hill Carnival on the 25th and 26th August. NTS radio presents a new seven part documentary exploring Jamaica’s rich musical heritage, interviewing key figures in the musical community on the ground in Kingston. Released in the run up to London’s Notting Hill Carnival celebrations, the documentary was filmed on location earlier in 2019, when NTS broadcast live from Jamaica for the first time ever. Produced in collaboration with Island Records, a record label that rose to prominence popularising Jamaican soundsystem culture in Britain, and who celebrated their sixtieth anniversary this year. The documentary covers a diverse range of topics for an intimate snapshot of the Jamaican music scene and soundsystem heritage, featuring exclusive interviews with the tight knit family behind the Rockers International record store on Beat Street in Kingston. Other episodes look to specific areas of the Kingston scene, such as the women artists that have succeeded in a sometimes male-dominated industry, as well as the empowering potency of reggae and dancehall, using poet Louise Bennett’s ‘Colonization In Reverse’ as a point of departure. Follow @nts_radio on Instagram to watch the first episode, and watch out for new episodes published daily.
